There has been much fretting at in the NSW Government over the future of Town Hall station, so much so that it has been a key factor in the plan for the Rozelle Metro, and in previous proposals such as the Metro-West line from Central to Wynyard not via Town Hall.
The situation arises from Town Hall being Sydney’s most popular station, yet confined to a small station box with 6 running lines and platforms. The station is also situated over 3 underground levels - concourse and two rail levels, as well …
I’ll try to keep away from my hobbyhorse polemic language from my own blog and stick to some reasonable
Last night’s announcement of $4.62 billion in funding for urban public transport projects in the 2009-10 Federal Budget is certainly a welcome thing.
There have been some recent posts such as Phin’s on high speed rail in the USA on the different blogs,
I was having a look at the new timetable for bus route 706 in Melbourne (PDF), which is not really a new
Articles focussed on transport economics, including rail and tram construction costs, operating costs, CBAs, tipping points etc.
Ways in which efficient planning and operation of transport systems can be attained. This section also includes plans for potential future transport projects.
The environmental and social costs and benefits of transport, the extent to which they can be assessed, and opportunity cost in provision.
While not wishing to lower this site’s very good reputation too far, it might be time for a bit of creativity.
Have a go at designing one per person, and we’ll vote on it at the end.
If you can go into this site and upload it yourself, then great.
If not, load your design onto photobucket or another free photo hosting site (or anywhere you like really) and post the link to it here.

I’ll post my two-bob here:
I’ve seen single ended cars work well on the Tuen Mun light rail system, a bit strange at first. It’s not just the lack of drivers stand but also the doors being on only one side which saved space, a bit like a bus.
The network obviously requires loops or triangles to shunt, but this network was ‘well invested in’ so it didn’t look like that was going to be much of a burden in the scheme of things.
Also in HK the island tramway has the ‘tram …
